Golden Circle vs south coast: which day trip?

If you only have 24 hours outside Reykjavik, you’re picking between these two — here's the honest comparison at $95-140 for organised tours or a $70 rental car day.
Golden Circle: convenient, crowded
Thingvellir national park (tectonic plates, ancient parliament site) + Geysir (Strokkur erupts every 6-10 minutes) + Gullfoss waterfall. Total driving from Reykjavik: 250km round trip, 3-4 hours behind the wheel. It's easy, iconic and every bus tour in the country does it — expect 40 buses at Geysir mid-morning. Add Fridheimar tomato farm ($30 lunch in a greenhouse) or Secret Lagoon ($35) to justify the day.
South coast: better, longer
Seljalandsfoss + Skogafoss + Reynisfjara + Vik. 380km round trip, 5-6 hours driving. Two proper waterfalls, the country's best black beach, and the drive itself is beautiful. The south coast wins on landscape drama. Golden Circle wins on time efficiency. My honest take: if you have one day, do the south coast and start at 7am. If you have two, do both, south coast first.
