Six Westfjords highlights ordered by how much they reward the long drive from Reykjavik.
The top three
1. Dynjandi waterfall — 100 metres tall, wider at the bottom than the top, and the single most photogenic thing in the region. Free, 1 km walk from the car park. 2. Latrabjarg bird cliffs at Europe's western tip — puffins at arm's length from mid-May to early August, 14 km of cliff, and almost no other tourists. 3. Raudasandur beach — 10 km of red-gold sand at the base of black cliffs, tidal and empty, with a small cafe (Franska Kaffihusid) that shouldn’t exist here but does.

4. Isafjordur town itself — the only real town up here, cafes, the Westfjords Heritage Museum, and boats to Hornstrandir. 5. Hellulaug natural hot pool near Flokalundur — free, on the fjord edge, cars-drive-past-and-miss-it obscure. 6. Hornstrandir Nature Reserve day trip from Isafjordur — no roads, Arctic foxes, and a proper wilderness feel; boats from around 12,000 ISK return.

Three minimum, four ideally. It's 6 hours from Reykjavik to Isafjordur one way, and the interior roads are slow gravel.
Not really. Many roads close from November to April, and the tunnel to Isafjordur is your only reliable access. Save it for June-September.
