Bruggsmidjan Kaldi brewery in nearby Arskogssandur is worth the 30-minute drive for the beer spa (ISK 9212).

Godafoss waterfall is 30 minutes east. Hlidarfjall ski area November-April, ISK 6755 lift ticket. Botanic Garden in summer, free and beautiful. Whale watching from the harbour (ISK 12896, better odds than Reykjavik). Beer bath at Bjorbodin. Municipal pool Sundlaug Akureyrar (ISK 1105) is the best in the north — heated waterslides in -10°C is a peak Iceland moment. Day-trip to Myvatn (1 hour drive) covers Nature Baths, Krafla and Dimmuborgir lava.
